How to use the OnPar System

The OnPar system is designed to be as easy to use as possible. What follows is a brief walk-through guide of how to use the system. If you get stuck or have any problems, don't hesitate to send us an e-mail at support@onpar.co.uk and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

First time use

Log into the system from the home page using the username and password you chose when you registered. If you forget your password, click the [FORGOTTEN PASSWORD] button below the [LOGIN] button, enter your email address and we will send an email to remind you of your password. If you haven't already done so, go to the [My Details] section and make sure your details are all correct, including your official handicap if you have one. If you don't have an official handicap, the system will calculate one for you after you have entered three rounds.

The next step is to click the [My Golf Bag] button and select the clubs you carry in your bag. You don't have to do this but doing so will reduce the amount of options in the 'club selection drop-down menu' later on when you are entering your round details. This will make life easier!

Entering details of a round

To enter details of a round, either click [Statistics] > [Enter Round] or click the [My Rounds] button form the login/welcome screen. The first step of entry is to select the golf course you played at from the A-Z list. If your golf club doesn't appear in the list you can add it yourself or you can e-mail us and we will do it for you. If you have entered round before, a list of your recently-played courses will be displayed for your convenience. The next step is to enter the date you played your round, the Tee you played from and the weather conditions on the day. These options are all selected in the green column to the left of the main page. Be sure to enter the round date, if you fail to do so the system will default to using the date you entered the round details. The par, yardage and SSS of the scorecard will be automatically updated as you select tee and weather conditions. Once you have selected these details, you can begin to enter your scores into the scorecard. Imagine it as a regular 'paper' scorecard, enter your score for each hole and use either the [TAB] key on your keyboard or click with your mouse to select the next hole. Once you have entered your scorecard details, check that they are correct and click the [CONTINUE] button on the bottom right of the screen.

Entering shot details

In order to use the game analysis functions of OnPar you must enter details of each shot you took. On the next screen you will be presented with a form showing all 18 holes played and a drop down menu for each shot you played. For example, if you took 4 shots on hole 1, the section for hole 1 will reflect this by requesting information for 4 shots. Select the club you used from the first drop-down menu - if you customised you golf bag the list should feature only the clubs you selected. In the next drop-down menu, select the location where the ball landed. For each shot, a distance field is provided - if you wish to record the distance of every shot then feel free to enter this here. At present, the only distances utilised by OnPar are when you are on the green. The distance you enter should be how far you are from the pin and entered in whole feet. If and when you finish less than 1 foot from the hole, use the 'tap-in' option from the drop-down menu and leave the distance box empty. By default the last shot on each hole is automatically completed for you as a 'hole out' using a putter to save a little time. If you're lucky enough to chip in you can alter the club used for the last shot. To get maximum benefit from Onpar it is important that you enter the details of each shot as accurately as possible. OnPar uses this information to provide in-depth analysis of your game. Once you have finished entering your round details click the [SAVE] button to store the shot details. For recording your shots around the course during game play we recommend you take a small pocket book and mark down the shots either shot by shot or after each hole. This seems to be the most popular method with OnPar users. Here is an example of how a par five played to par written in shorthand might look:

1. [being the hole] D-FC, [Driver, Fairway Centre], 5W-FC, [5 Wood, Fairway Centre] GW-GL10', [Gap Wedge, Green Long 10 feet from the pin] P-Ti [Putter Tap In] P-Ho, [Putter Hole out], 5 [being the score]

Without the descriptors it would read:-

1. d-fc, 5w-fc, gw-gl-10', p-ti, p-ho, 5

Once you have entered a round full of shot details you can view your statistics and charts by either clicking the [Statistics] button in the top menu or [My Rounds] from the login/welcome screen. PLEASE NOTE - some of the statistics produced are averages and therefore the graphs and charts produced will not make sense until at least 2 rounds have been entered.
